Natale's GSoC work is scheduled to be merged next week; the attached patch is proposed as a last call for comments.

Leaving bug open for the following items:

- align traces for NSC test cases
- update .rst manual
- update RELEASE_NOTES
- update CHANGES.html

then I suggest to close when those are done.
